Tis The Season for Stranded Seals and Other Wild Animals
If you see a seal bobbing in the surf during a stroll on the beach, enjoy the sight. The Nantucket Marine Mammal Stranding Team reminds us that seals are wild animals and sometimes rest on the beach. People and pets should keep away from stranded or resting animals. Watch this informative video filmed by Deb Miller and Hosted by Edie Ray (Thank you Plum TV) for instructions on what to do if you notice a stranded marine mammal.
Christmas Stroll
During the Holiday season on Nantucket there are many festivities for everyone to enjoy. Here at the Atheneum, John Knox-Johnson reads A Child's Christmas In Wales.

Simple Beauty
I AM FOREVER walking upon these shores,
Betwixt the sand and the foam,
The high tide will erase my foot-prints,
And the wind will blow away the foam.
But the sea and the shore will remain

The Fish and Walk On Fishermans' Beach
Having just returned from a late swim and walk on Fishermans' Beach, a hauntingly beautiful poem by W.B. Yeats was on my mind. It is sung by Sinead Lohan and the music is just as haunting.
The Fish
WB Yeats
Although you hide in the ebb and flow
Of the pale tide when the moon has set,
The people of coming days will know
About the casting out of my net,
And how you have leaped times out of mind
Over the little silver cords,
And think that you were hard and unkind,
And blame you with many bitter words.
